Marcom and April Herren

"Life with God is an endlessly exciting adventure" ~Henry Blackaby.

We (Marcom and April) met at Abilene Christian University in 1983, and got married in June of 1985.  Shortly after, Marcom started four years of Medical School in Fort Worth, TX, and then four more years  of Internship and Residency. We then settled in to Wichita Falls, TX where we lived and worked for 20 years, raising our three children.

Several years ago, we attended a workshop where we spent time discovering and uncovering our individual life missions. We found that together we shared a very similar dream, envisioning a place of quiet and reflection in the mountains. A place where people could remove themselves from the stresses of life, come and sit with God, and let nature speak to them.  While on Christmas vacation in 2011, we stumbled into our dream of Eagle Mountain Lodge through a divine set of circumstances.  Two years later, we took the plunge and here we are, carrying on the mission of Eagle Mountain Lodge. Together we are so excited to be the hosts of this great Lodge and to share it with you, our friends!

We've been on quite a fascinating faith journey over the last few years.  We've gone from a place of being certain of so many things about God and religion to a place of embracing the mystery of who God is and seeking wisdom from the life of Jesus.  Life is more about discovering the right questions than having the right answers.  We don't have to have all the answers.  But, we are certain that love is the foundation of everything in life, and we are continually growing ourselves in this.

“Eagle Mountain Lodge is a place of restoration and renewal for the weary, awakening and deepening for the seeker, and growth and inspiration for the leader.”

Core Beliefs

Intersectional Inclusivity

  • We welcome all people. We believe people of all races, creeds, sexual identity/orientation, and religions are of equal standing before God. We honor the diversity of all races, creeds, genders, sexual orientations and religions without discrimination.

Jesus as a Spiritual Model

  • We believe that we are all spiritual beings, created in the image of God, and desire to come into deeper relationship and union with the Spirit. We love the teachings of Jesus Christ, and he is our central reference point.  Our desire is to truly understand and follow his greatest command: to love God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves.  We also honor and find wisdom in many of the great teachers throughout the world. We believe that life is more about discovering the right questions then having the right answers.

Refuge and safety

  • We seek to engage and serve those who are lonely, disenfranchised, or even rejected, finding themselves on the fringe of religion and relationship. We offer refuge and safe community for restoration of heart.
